The Summer That Never Ended

Image
The car rumbled down the winding road, swallowed by towering pine trees and the thick scent of earth and rain. Ryan sat in the backseat, forehead resting against the cold glass, watching as the world blurred past him. His parents sat in the front, chatting idly about the upcoming vacation, while his younger sister hummed a tune, oblivious to his reluctance. A summer trip. Another forced excursion into some distant town his parents had chosen in an attempt to "bring the family closer." As if that ever worked. He was already overwhelmed with stress—college applications, constant pressure, and the gnawing feeling that nothing in his life made sense. He didn’t need this trip. He needed time alone. The town they arrived in was nothing spectacular. A small coastal village, hugged by rolling cliffs and open fields, with streets so quiet they felt frozen in time. The air smelled of salt, and the wind carried the distant echoes of seagulls. It was the place where everyone knew everyon...

"Shadows Within"

Bill's day began like any other—unremarkable, predictable, routine. As he sat at his office desk, the droning hum of computers and muted conversations formed the backdrop of his life. But this day would be different, though he couldn't yet know how. As the clock ticked towards the end of his shift, a sense of unease settled in the pit of his stomach. After a quick dinner, he settled into his usual evening routine—television, a book, and then bed. But as he read, he felt a c...

An unremarkable existence in a nondescript town where everyone knew everyone, and nothing ever changed. Dale worked as a night janitor at the local high school, giving him the solitude he craved. The stillness of the empty halls, the quiet hum of fluorescent lights, and the rhythmic swish of his mop were the only constants in his world. One night, while cleaning the school's basement—a place Dale often avoided due to its unsettling atmosphere—he stumbled upon a hidden door. It was an old wooden door, its paint peeling, barely noticeable behind a stack of discarded furniture. Intrigued and driven by a rare curiosity, Dale decided to explore what lay beyond. The door creaked open to reveal a narrow, dimly lit staircase descending into darkness. He hesitated, but something inexplicable compelled him to descend. As he reached the bottom, he found himself in a forgotten cellar, ...
